UGC for apps

App UGC is a short video of a real person using your app, filmed on their phone and shaped like the posts around it. This guide covers the formats, what a brief needs, how rates work on UGC.Place and where to find creators who film software.

What app UGC is

A creator films your app on their phone, shows it doing one job, and talks about it the way they would tell a friend. The video can go out in three ways, and each creator’s profile says which they accept:

  • Posted on their TikTok, where their followers see it. Their median views on UGC.Place tell you what a recent post of theirs typically got.
  • Posted on a new account the creator makes for your brand, if you are building an account of your own.
  • Files only, for you to post or run as ads yourself.

Whichever you pick, say up front whether you will run it as a paid ad, and for how long.

App UGC formats

  • Product demo

One task in the app from start to result: the screen recording leads, with the creator’s voice or face over it. Best when the value shows in a single flow.

  • Feature explainer

One feature, why it matters and how to use it, told to camera with the screen cut in. Suits B2B tools and anything that needs a sentence of context.

  • Hook-first ad

Opens on the problem or the result, shows the app as the answer and ends on one clear ask. Made to be cut into versions and tested as a paid ad.

In the directory these are the Video type filter: Product Demo, Tutorials & How-To, Talking Head and Reviews & Testimonials. Every creator shows example videos on their profile, so you can see their style before you write to them.

Hooks to ask for

The opening seconds decide whether anyone sees the rest. Ask for two or three hooks on the same video so you can test them against each other. Openings that suit apps:

  • The result first: what the app made or saved, then how.
  • The problem in one line, said the way your viewer would say it.
  • Before and after: the old way, then the same job in the app.
  • A reaction to something in the app: a notification, a result, a number.

What a good app brief contains

Creators can only film what the brief makes clear. A useful one fits on a page:

  • The app in one sentence, and the one job this video shows.
  • Who it is for: the viewer you want to stop scrolling, in their own words.
  • Access: a download link, a test account or a promo code, and test data so nothing private ends up on screen.
  • Format and length: demo, explainer or hook-first ad, the length you will run, and how many hooks.
  • Must say and must avoid: claims you can back up, how to say the price, names to leave out.
  • The screen: iOS or Android, light or dark mode, and whether the creator records the screen or you send recordings.
  • Delivery and usage: their account, a new account or files only; paid ad use and for how long; on TikTok, whether you want a Spark Ads code to boost their post.
  • Due date, rounds of changes and payment terms.

On UGC.Place a signed-in brand saves this once as an offer template (terms, number of videos, delivery, usage, what to make, example videos, a due date) and sends it to a creator from their card or profile.

How rates work here

Every listed creator sets their own rate on their profile: a fee per video, a CPM (a fee per 1,000 views of the posted video), or both. You see it on their card before you contact them.

The directory’s Rate filter narrows by per-video fee and CPM, and can show only creators open to views-only deals, where pay depends on views with no guaranteed fee.

The rate is a starting point. What you agree depends on the number of videos, delivery and paid ad usage. An offer can be a fixed fee per video, a CPM, a fee plus CPM, set amounts at view targets, or a tiered CPM, with views counted from TikTok’s public count on the post.

UGC.Place doesn’t handle payment and takes no cut: you pay the creator directly, on the terms you agreed.

Finding creators on UGC.Place

  1. Search the directory, free and without an account. Filter by location, language, category, video type, rate and TikTok performance.
  2. Compare their numbers. Followers, median views and engagement come from each creator’s TikTok, with the date they were read. A creator without numbers yet shows a dash, never a zero.
  3. Watch the example videos on their profile.
  4. Sign in to message a creator or send an offer, then agree the rest directly.

The details are in How it works. Who runs UGC.Place, and why its search can’t be bought: About.
